Community Health Systems Inc. recently conducted training sessions in June for approximately 30 managerial-level employees across six of their Senior Living facilities in Alabama. The training, facilitated by Eric Goodcase from VitAL and The University of Alabama, focused on Mental Health First Aid. This program equips participants with skills to identify and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges, offering initial support until professional help can be engaged. The Gateway Workforce Initiative has completed five Alabama Workforce Stabilization Program grants for investor businesses to be trained and certified in this training.
Nick Wilmott, Vice President of Operations at Community Health Systems Inc., emphasized the importance of these skills, especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. "The covid pandemic really brought to light how important mental health is to our residents and employees. The tools provided in the training allow people to feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable conversations about mental health. While we are not therapists and not able to fix the situation an individual is going through, we can facilitate getting the person help. We are very thankful for Gateway recommending and providing this course to our employees and managers," said Wilmott.
Thank you to Nick and his team at CHS for participating in this training!
